Archaeology in Saxony
The smac permanent exhibition shows Saxony's history from hunters and gatherers to industrialization on 3000 m². 6200 exhibits, the floating sculpture of Saxony and a section of the earth's strata bring the cultural and historical development to life.
An exhibition shows early traces of Jewish life in Saxony, including the mikvah from the period between 1500 and 1800 discovered in Chemnitz. Gravestones, coins and manuscripts prove that Jewish life has been part of Saxon history for centuries.
The smac dedicates separate exhibition areas to Erich Mendelsohn, Salman Schocken and the department store group. In curved bays along the window front, timelines provide a chronological orientation to the history of the building and its protagonists.
The dialog team at smac invites you to engage in conversations at eye level with a recognizable red button. They answer questions, tell background stories and connect visitors with the culture and objects in the exhibition.
In the creative workshop for the Planet Africa special exhibition, families can play, craft and experiment with a variety of materials. Weave colorful bookmarks, build African motifs with Lego®, create an Africa memory or a large map of Africa
